Dear friends in Christ, and friends of Dave Stamp,

I am writing to invite you to join me in participating in a fundraiser for Dave Stamp, a well known and much loved man in our faith community who needs our help. Dave is a faithful servant of God at St. John the Divine in Copper Cliff. He also serves as a Diocesan Layreader. In that capacity he leads services of worship in several nursing/retirement homes and his ministry is greatly appreciated by those who are unable to make it to church regularly.

David Stamp

This week I met with the Rev. Glen Miller, the rector of St. John’s and Mr. Tom Newburn the treasurer and they shared Dave’s plight with me, and his need for a motorized wheelchair. This will aid Dave in his daily life and ministry and make things easier for him.  I bring their request for funding to you now as fellow members of the body of Christ, for your prayerful consideration.

Here is a portion of the letter Tom Newburn wrote to me and to the St. John’s Advisory Board:

As you all may know, Dave has been wheelchair bound, for many years, certainly as long as I have known him, and to his credit has been handling his disability with a great attitude.

However, last year he suffered a nasty accident where he tore his rotator cuff, which has been very painful.

On the advice of his surgeon, he applied to obtain a motorized wheel chair through the government Assisted Devices Program (ADP). He is now in a 4-5 month waiting period, and is now ready to accept his new chair, once the approval is received.

The total cost of the motorized chair is $13,323, of which $7581 will be paid by the ADP, leaving a balance to be paid of $6,042. However, Dave also needs a new lift for his vehicle which will cost an additional $1,775, for a total of $7,817.

I have told Dave that I would assist him in paying this very substantial bill, and I would encourage those of you that are able, to help out our dear friend who really needs help at this time.

Donations can be directed to any branch of the Sudbury Credit Union.

Cheques should be made payable to the Church of St. John the Divine, including  “Plan 24 Acct –wheelchair donations” on the Memo line. Mail in donations should be sent to Sudbury Credit Union, 1 Gribble St., Copper Cliff ON, P0M 1N0

The Church has provided the account to facilitate the donation process but unfortunately there will be NO tax receipts issued.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. Let us continue to pray for Dave and Joanne Stamp in this time of worry and concern.  Paul’s words to the church in Corinth about being members of the body resonate with me, that: “The members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honoured, all rejoice together with it.” (1. Cor. 12.25-26)

Wishing you all a blessed Pentecost Sunday. May the gifts of the Holy Spirit live in us as we share the good news of Christ from our homes, churches and communities,

Anne
