Deanery Pastoral Worker (Sudbury-Manitoulin)

The Deanery Pastoral Worker will work with parishes in the western half of the deanery of Sudbury-Manitoulin (Manitoulin Island, Espanola, Elliott Lake) to develop local and area-wide initiatives to support congregational health, discipleship, and formation. The position will include:

a.      consultation with parishes to assist with assessment of congregational health  and needs

b.     collaboration with local clergy to develop and implement ministry initiatives

c.      development of intergenerational programs

d.     development of local leadership to ensure sustainability

For this position, previous experience in community development and/or faith formation, familiarity with church communities, particularly in the Anglican tradition, and the ability to work collaboratively in pastoral settings would be assets. This position requires the ability to travel in the Manitoulin Island, Espanola and Elliott Lake areas. Travel costs will be reimbursed at the Diocesan rate.

20 hours/week, excluding travel time.

Duration: 24 months.

Timeline:

  • months 1-6: orientation; consultation with incumbents and parishes
  • months 7-12: development of local and area initiatives
  • months 13-24: development of local leadership for initiatives

Remuneration: $11.40/hour

The employer for this ministry position is The Incorporated Synod of the Diocese of Algoma.  The Bishop, as President of The Incorporated Synod, is the senior employment manager in the Diocese. The Archdeacon of Sudbury-Manitoulin will serve as the Deanery Pastoral Worker’s immediate supervisor in matters relating to employment, representing the Bishop in these matters and responsible to the Bishop for this work. The Diocesan Congregational Development Officer will serve as the employee’s immediate supervisor in matters relating to the content of program and other initiatives supporting congregational health, discipleship, and formation. The work done by the Deanery Pastoral Worker and those holding similar positions in other deaneries will be coordinated by the Congregational Development Officer as part of the overall program and youth work of the Diocese. The Congregational Development Officer shall represent the Bishop in these matters and be responsible to the Bishop for this work.
