Regreening Sacred Spaces

I’m reaching out to invite you to a free workshop that reThink Green will be co-hosting with Faith & the Common Good on Thursday November 19th 5-7 p.m. at 176 Larch Street, Sudbury.  As a leader of a faith community we would like your input a new project we are launching Sudbury, called Green Economy North.

Green Economy North will be the hub of a network of organizations and businesses working towards setting and achieving sustainability goals. We will be providing report tools, support services, networking events and public recognition to green leaders in our community. We are working with Sustainability CoLab, an organization which has successfully fostered the development of similar programs in 6 other communities across Ontario (Waterloo, Niagara, Durham, Ottawa, Kingston and York Region).

We want faith communities to be part of this project and contribute to the conversation as we prepare to launch it. Because you have different goals and challenges than business owners, we have invited Faith & the Common Good to help us develop a special package tailored to your needs. Executive Director, Dr. Lucy Cummings will join us to help us explore the variety of faith communities’ resources that they have developed through their Greening Sacred Spaces project.  This will be the first time that Sustainability CoLab and Greening Sacred Spaces have worked together, so we have the potential to create something very powerful and exciting.

At the workshop will be providing information about:

  •  Tangible tools for your congregation to help you lower your operating costs and fulfill your creation care calling. (e.g. Green team building, DIY energy audits, networking events, eco-spiritual guides)
  • How to increase the “mission per square foot” of your faith building, a new program linking environmental sustainability goals with the challenge of keeping your doors open.
  • The business and spiritual case in support of renewable energy projects (ex., solar panels)

We would like to hear from you about

  • Resources and support you need to become more sustainable – environmentally, socially and financially.
  • Challenges and successes you have had engaging the broader community in working together on these sustainability goals.

Please let me know if you are interested joining the conversation. Since we are just starting to build our network, we would greatly appreciate if you would forward this message to your colleagues and/or connect us with other leaders who might be interested. Please RSVP by Friday November 6th.

Thanks so much for your support and I look forward to hearing from you.
